By Beth NewcombVery rarely do you hear someone say, “I can’t wait to get a facelift.” That’s because the pain, expense and recovery time are huge deterrents when the idea of turning back the hands of time starts to formulate. With the fresh launch of her Dr. Laurel’s Total Face Fix, Dr. Laurel Matthews, a board-certified physician and the owner of Dr. Laurel’s PRP Bar, is changing the future of erasing the years. And with the average cost of a surgical facelift ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000, she’s also making her Total Face Fix, priced at a reasonable $6,500, accessible to many. Included in the procedure are up to four syringes of long-lasting Voluma for the mid-face and chin, a cannula lip augmentation and treatment of the corners of the mouth with up to two syringes of filler, a complete PDO thread jawline lift, and undereye and face rejuvenation with double-spin PRP (platelet-rich plasma). “The results are dramatic and can last up to two years,” Dr. Laurel says. “Nobody is offering this combination of aesthetic options. A lot of medical offices offer filler, but I specialize in offering platelet-rich plasma as an aesthetic correction option and the PDO thread lift to round out this procedure. NO MORE DUCK LIPS: THE CANNULA LIP FILLER METHOD IS HERE
Duck lips happen when filler is improperly placed with a needle in the central part of the lips and not in the corners where there is volume loss.
By Beth Newcomb We’ve all seen the results of too much lip filler gone wrong…duck lips. “Duck lips happen when filler is improperly placed with a needle in the central part of the lips and not in the corners where there is volume loss,” says Dr. Laurel Matthews, owner of Dr. Laurel’s PRP Bar and a board-certified aesthetic medicine practitioner. “I have perfected the technique of using the cannula method to inject filler. And, after having done hundreds of lips this way, I can promise gorgeous, natural-looking results.” Four pinpoint apertures are made at the mouth corners and a microcannula is inserted to follow the patient’s normal lip curvature. No part of the needle is inserted into the colored portion of the lips. Then, a thin, consistent line of filler is laid down retrograde as the cannula is removed from the lip. “This allows filler placement to be smooth and even without lumps. There is no bruising and minimal swelling,” she says. “And with this method, filler can be placed at the corners of the mouth where a regular needle can’t reach, thus preventing the duck look.”

Perk up your pucker!
by Beth Newcomb As we age, says Dr. Laurel Matthews, the owner of Dr. Laurel’s PRP Bar who is also a master injector, the corners of our lips disappear, making us look like our face is caving in and our jowls are sagging. Adding filler to the corners of the mouth can instantly improve the entire lower portion of the face.
“Filler in the lips isn’t always about plumping,” she notes. “Sometimes it’s about lifting and adding volume where volume has been lost.”
Another area of change around the mouth is the upper lip line, where fine lines start to appear and the lip begins to thin. Adding filler to the upper lip can correct those lines without necessarily adding volume, she notes. Of course, if you want to plump your pucker, she can do that, too.
“Volbella lasts for up to a year, and the built-in cross-hatch technology creates a fence that provides correction without bulk. Juvederm in the lips provides an augmented look,” she explains.
Right now, Dr. Laurel is offering $100 off Juvederm Ultra or Volbella for lips, with the mention of this story, until April 1, 2019.
